GENERAL QUESTIONS

What makes your company worth our investment?

Our overall goal is to protect the integrity and ‘production value’ of every event! This care and concern is well known by our past & present clients, as well as banquet coordinators & event professionals across Canada. We are able to bring together a solid network of years of experience in the entertainment and Audio / Visual industries. Our combined experience from thousands of events & performances is available for your special event. This means we make your vision of the perfect event or celebration a reality. Our fresh look brings a new definition to “experienced entertainment”, entertainers & DJ’s and AV set-ups and technology. We’ve been providing a reputable service for over 15 years; our systems are uniformly sleek and state-of-the-art and of course each entertainer, musician or disc jockey is hand picked, highly polished and professional!

Great Times… building TRUST in the industry, one event at a time!

Is setup time included in your price?
You never have to pay an additional fee for setup or takedown requirements. Our rates for Dj’s, entertainers and Audio Visual packages include compensation for these requirements. For larger weddings & theme events we typically arrive many hours prior to contracted start time or the day prior if possible and manageable.

How far will you travel?
We travel throughout Manitoba & Winnipeg and Western Ontario as well as Saskatchewan and Alberta. Travel charges and accommodations may apply depending on contract agreements, event locations and distance traveled. Our local entertainers and disc Jockeys (dj’s) are based out of Winnipeg and Brandon, Calgary, Banff & the BC interior. If your event is taking place elsewhere from these above locations, please contact us to make special arrangements.

Do you offer a contract or written agreement?
Absolutely. Our contract is straightforward and written in plain English so that you can understand the terms before signing. It is signed by both parties and offers you a high level of protection and dependability. With the contract you can be assured that there will be no hidden extra charges or surprises at your event. A signed contract and deposit officially reserves your date. If you have any questions or concerns about the terms, just ask!

What is the deposit and when is the final payment due?
For most standard Dj packages and events we require a min $150 deposit and signed contract to officially reserve your date. For most events the remaining balance is due seven days prior to your event date. (payment plans can also be set-up) We will gladly accept your personal or certified cheque, money order, cash or if necessary your Visa/Mastercard payment.

How early should we book?
Simply put…the sooner the better! Planning is KEY and timing can be everything! Some of the most popular dates (long-weekends and Saturdays in May, June, July & August & Sept) can and do book as early as one year in advance. However, depending on popularity some dates remain open until the month or days before. Protect your celebration or special events ‘production value’ by making your entertainment choice as soon as possible and reserving the services well in advance.

Are your rates negotiable?
Our rates are based on our cost of doing business as well as the ‘production value’ we place on the job. We take all events seriously and attend to each in a professional manner. As part of the initial event planning process, we work with you to determine the best services available to match your budget. We network with a wide range of entertainers, musicians, Dj’s and Audio Visual technicians in order to offer you awareness of availability as well as a range of service standards to match the budget. Place your entertainment needs in the hands of Great Times and get peace of mind as a first priority! We provide event planning and production assistance as part of every event. In person, phone and email consultations available.

Are you a member of any professional organizations?
We’re a proud member of numerous organizations that promote professionalism and ethics in the Entertainment Industry such as the Canadian Online Disc Jockey Association, Calgary & Winnipeg Weddings Group & the Bridal Network. Our music is licensed and legally available for events.

ENTERTAINERS (Non-music related)

How do we request an Entertainer? (Comedian, Impersonator & more…)
Great Times offers Event Planning and Production assistance for events. With this service comes an awareness of many styles of entertainers, personalities and backgrounds. Once we have a general idea of what you are looking for, we will then provide you with ideas and suggestions to consider. If we don’t already have what you are looking for, our event planning members will work together to search your local area for the best talent available to match your budget. Contact us today to request all styles of entertainers and entertainment such as comedians, impersonators, kids entertainers, Keynote Speakers and more…

ENTERTAINERS (Music related)

Who will be our entertainer? (Bands, musicians, Dj’s & more)
We always match our clients with the most qualified and suitable entertainer based on your musical stylings, tastes and overall requests for your event. Many times, your entertainer or DJ will contact you well in advance to introduce themselves and review details about your special event.

Can we choose the music style(s) & specific songs to be played?
You’ll be amazed at how flexible we are when it comes to music selection! We supply Event Planning Guides and Planning assistance in order to provide you with the service you are looking for. For standard Dj entertainment events it is easy to accomplish this goal with planning in advance. With Bands or musicians, we will require ample notice of specific songs and song styles in order to match or locate the best entertainment choice for you.
We’ve had clients that have chosen every song for the entire event and others that have left the music selection completely up to us. Our recommendation is for you to provide us with a list of “play if possible” songs. This will leave plenty of room for your requests, requests from your guests as well as our selections. You may also stipulate if you wish that requests from your guests may not be taken. (General guideline is 60-75 songs over the course of a typical four hour dance or music package)

Can we have a “Do Not Play” list?
A Do Not Play section is included in our Event Planning Guide as well as on our Online Request Form. This is your event – we will listen to you.

What if we want a song that you don’t have?
While our 5,000 ‘Most Popular Songs’ CD kits (click here to view our online music library) contain the widest variety of hits from the 1940s to today, it’s likely you may have a few obscure requests or AVLA restricted songs that are not in our repertoire. In this case, we would be more than happy to play your CD. As you’re making your request list in advance, simply indicate which songs you would like to have played for sure. We will review your requests and inform you in advance of any songs that are not part of our licensed music selection. If you are contracting a Band or musician, planning is once again important. Many times quality Bands and Musicians will prepare for your custom requests!

How loud do you play the music?
One of the greatest complaints of many bands and DJs alike is that they played the music too loud. It doesn’t have to be that way! Although different venues have different acoustics, our common sense (and digital sound meters) combined with strategic positioning of speakers, protects your guests from loud music. Our ‘short-throw’ commercial sound systems allow us to focus the music on the dance floor during the dancing portion of the night, allowing guests in other areas of your venue to comfortably carry on a conversation. Our extended conference or concert style sound systems are always protected by an experienced and qualified sound technician.

DJ’s & Interactive Entertainers

How interactive are your DJs?
A very familiar question! Understand that different disc jockeys and entertainers are assigned to different styles of packages. Often times when a prospective client is looking for the perfect DJ or entertainer, they search for one who fits the personality & level of interaction they’re looking for. Depending on which package you choose, your disc jockey or interactive entertainer can be conservative, outgoing, or anywhere in between. By default, our Gold DJs are there to take requests and play great music, whereas our Interactive and Showcase entertainers will be as interactive as necessary to keep your guests having a great time at your event. In any case, you will not find one of our DJs or entertainers being immature or inappropriate with their demeanor on or off the microphone. The #1 skill we look for is ‘good people’. Even at our most outgoing level, we still remain professional.

How much should we tip our Entertainer or Dj?
Any gratuity or tip you wish to pay your Entertainer for an outstanding performance is certainly appreciated. Our DJs and Entertainers often receive 10 – 15% based on their performance.

Should we feed our DJ?
If you have us booked for the full evening (i.e. throughout your cocktail and/or dinner period, plus your dance), we’ll often be at your event for nine or ten hours when set-up and tear-down time is considered. Because most venues do not allow us to bring our own food or drink, we ask that a meal be provided for your disc jockey/entertainer(s).
