Whether you are looking for a string quartet to play Vivaldi’s Spring as you walk down the aisle, or want a pianist playing some classic pieces during a corporate cocktail reception, classical music is the perfect choice for many occasions.
Also known as Cover Bands, a Calgary party or cover band does what the name implies; covers a song in their own way and plays the hits of other bands. A number of cover or party bands will have an extensive play list (eg. 150-200 songs) that cover a number of different music categories to appeal to vast audiences. However, many cover bands typically stick to just a couple styles or genres of music to do it well and sound as close as possible to the original artists.
What is different about a wedding band compared to a party band? A wedding band can cater to many styles of music, like 50s & 60s, Classic Rock, Country, Pop and modern Top 40 hits as well. Some wedding bands and artists excel at additional styles like Swing or Celtic and even R&B and Hip Hop. A wedding band has to have a generous play list and be able to play a variety of music to suit the variety of age ranges and musical tastes seen at a Canadian wedding.
The Jazz and Blues scene has changed a lot over the years but one thing remains the same; the soulful sound resonates to the bone. The music can be something in the background that isn’t noticed but unknowingly keeps people shopping or lures couples into a coffee shop because of what they heard playing through the speakers. Whereas a jazz band sometime spends more of its time as a source of background music, a blues band can fill a bar or hall for a night of blues jams and fun.
Celebrities, impersonators or otherwise, can make any event stand out. Some say imitation is the highest form of flattery so for some celebrities, bands and musicians like Elvis, The Beatles, Dolly Parton & Michael Jackson, they must feel uber-flattered! Impersonators and tribute artists and bands are professionals who have either been trained to talk the talk or are born to walk the walk. Either way, tribute acts are sure to please if the crowd is right.
Adele, Celine Dion, Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Michael Bublé…. the list of consummate singers goes on. Modern, international singers can range in price from $20,000 to $3M (Adele) for a 30 minute performance at a wedding. Local singers can add their own bit of flair to an event as well and won’t break the bank like the active singers currently touring the world. Consider a live jazz or blues singer and piano player as the highlight to your corporate reception during cocktail hour, or the gentle voice of a singer in the background as guests arrive for your wedding ceremony.
